Thanks for your interest in attending PageSlayers Summer Camp 2018!
PageSlayers is a 2016 Knight Arts Challenge Winner bringing free creative writing workshops to Opa-locka, Florida. We began in summer 2017, and we're back for 2018! Each of the two, three-week sessions takes place at Thrive (780 Fisherman Street, 2nd Floor, Opa-locka, FL 33054) and employs published, professional writers of color.
At the end of the sessions, a free reading and exhibition will be held on-site for the campers to perform an original piece of writing for an audience of friends, family, and the community. By sharing their work through performance and publication, we hope to build literary communities not only in Opa-locka, but Miami as a whole.
There are two sessions to choose from:
Session One: June 18-July 6, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.;
Session Two: July 9-July 27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.;
Choose your session (you can only choose one, but feel free to put in an alternate session), fill out the following forms, then send them to us via email, or using the online form. The first round of applications is due June 4, 2018. After the first round of acceptances have been sent, we will review and accept applications on a case-by-case basis. Each session can only accept 22 students total. We will provide campers with breakfast and lunch every day, as well as writing utensils, paper, notebooks, and one camp T-shirt (if funds allow).
For students entering the 4th or 5th grade, there are two ways to apply online:
