Thanks for your interest in attending PageSlayers Summer Camp!
PageSlayers is a 2016 Knight Arts Challenge Winner bringing free creative writing workshops to Opa-locka, Florida, starting summer 2017 and 2018. Each of the three, two-week sessions take place at Thrive (780 Fisherman Street, 2nd Floor, Opa-locka, FL 33054) and employs published, professional writers of color. At the end of the sessions, on the evening of July 28, a free reading and exhibition will be held on-site for the campers to perform an original piece of writing for an audience of friends, family, and the community. By sharing their work through performance and publication, we hope to build literary communities not only in Opa-locka, but Miami as a whole.
There are three sessions to choose from:
Session One: June 19-June 30, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; 4 spots left!
Session Two: July 3-July 14, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.;
Session Three: July 17-July 28, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Choose your session (you can only choose one, but feel free to put in an alternate session), fill out the following forms, then send them to us via email, or using the online form. The first round of applications is due June 1, 2017. After the first round of acceptances have been sent, we will review and accept applications on a case-by-case basis. Each session can only accept 15 students total. We will provide campers with breakfast and lunch every day, as well as writing utensils, paper, notebooks, and one camp T-shirt.
For students entering the 4th or 5th grade, there are two ways to apply online:
